Facebook has released a new updated version of the Messenger app of their popular service for Android for a "faster and more reliable mobile-to-mobile messaging experience," as they noted.
As is usually the case, the new version has been made available to a limited number of users, so that any potential problems during use can be identified.
The new version allows users to see which of their friends are also using it, by placing the relevant blue Facebook Messenger badge next to their photo.
In addition, the new application has acquired a fresher appearance and greater functionality.
The update comes at a time when competition in mobile messaging is very intense and is gaining a new strong player, BlackBerry, which released the long-awaited BBM application for iOS and Android and had over 10 million downloads in the first 24 hours.
