A British hacker has been arrested in England, accused of breaching government systems and US military computer networks with the aim of stealing confidential data.

Lauri Love, 28, is accused of hacking into thousands of computer systems with the help of three accomplices. According to the indictment issued Monday, the perpetrators managed to break into the systems of the Pentagon's Missile Defense Agency, the US Army Corps of Engineers, the US space agency NASA, and the Environmental Protection Agency.

"Love and his accomplices created backdoors to enable future data retrieval from networks and attempted to disrupt the smooth operation of United States government infrastructure," the indictment states.

According to data, the breach took place in October 2012 and resulted in millions of dollars in financial losses and the breach of personal military data, as well as data related to defense budgets, contracts, and information on the demolition and disposal of military facilities.
