ChatGPT Atlas adds vertical tabs similar to Arc

OpenAI is upgrading ChatGPT Atlas with vertical tabs that make it look a bit like the Arc browser. Now, instead of opening a new tab at the top of the AI-powered browser, you can change the style of your tabs to have them in a sidebar on the left.

Like Arc, you can resize the sidebar in ChatGPT Atlas, as well as rearrange your tabs. The new sidebar isn’t quite as full-featured as Arc’s, but the address bar still sits at the top of your screen. You can try out vertical tabs in ChatGPT Atlas by right-clicking inside the address bar, selecting “Tab Styles,” and then “Vertical Tabs.”

Along with this change, you can now set Google as your default search engine, which makes sense since using the browser can sometimes feel like doing a Google search with extra steps. Otherwise, ChatGPT Atlas will present you with about 10 relevant sources it found online, with a link to the Google search results in the top right corner of the screen.

Other updates include the ability to select and move multiple tabs by holding down Command or Shift and clicking. You can also import your extensions from your existing browser when downloading Atlas, although this feature is not yet available to existing users. There's also an improved download interface, as well as support for iCloud keychain passkeys .

ChatGPT Atlas was released on macOS last month, the latest addition to the AI-powered browsing experience, joining Perplexity’s Comet and Google’s Gemini Chrome extension. With ChatGPT Atlas, you can either enter a URL or type a question and ChatGPT will answer it. You can see the full list of changes on OpenAI’s website.
