Google is rolling out an update for Pixel phones that includes a new feature: notification summaries. The AI-powered feature will initially be available only for chat conversations. It will be part of this month's update for Pixel 9 series phones and above, excluding the Pixel 9A.

Mishaal Rahman provided information about this feature back in August, when relevant code was found in a beta version of Android 16. Summaries will be limited to chat apps and only for larger conversations, allowing the system to have more context and potentially reduce potential errors. Additionally, Google plans to beef up the update in December with automatic notification sorting and silencing of those deemed lower priority.
Google: Notification summaries and protection from fraud
Earlier this year, Google brought fraud detection to phones other than Pixel. Now, Pixel 6 and later phones will extend fraud detection to some third-party apps , like Telegram and Discord . The notifications will include a “ potential fraud ” badge , and users will receive a warning to be cautious when tapping on these notifications. The fraud detection for calls feature is also rolling out to Pixel 9 owners (excluding the 9A) in the UK, Ireland, India, Australia, and Canada.

In Google’s messaging app, users will soon be able to “blending” photos with AI directly from within Messages. This update will expand beyond Pixel devices to the wider Android ecosystem, though it’s currently limited to English-speaking users in the US, UK, Australia, Canada, India, Ireland, and New Zealand. Additionally, Pixel 6 and later devices will prioritize chat notifications from designated VIP contacts.
