The transition was rocky, with bugs, strange hardware requirements, and the chip TPM 2.0, a hardware-based security feature that was missing from many older PCs. That meant that for many users, upgrading meant buying a new PC. Not the best start. But fast forward to today, things have changed. Windows 11 has now officially surpassed Windows 10 as the most widely used version of Windows worldwide.

According to the latest figures, 52% of Windows users are now running Windows 11, while 44.59% are still on Windows 10. Just six months ago, the situation was reversed – Windows 11 was at 35% and Windows 10 dominated with 62%. What changed? Microsoft officially announced that Windows 10 support will end in October 2025 – which obviously got a lot of users excited.

Additionally, the new Windows Backup for Organizations was particularly helpful for businesses, making mass upgrades less chaotic. For companies managing dozens or even hundreds of devices, this was perhaps the defining turning point.

But that doesn't mean that just because people have to switch operating systems, they want to. Windows 11 continues to leave mixed impressions. Yes, it has some nice upgrades, like more customization options and modern features, but it also has a lot of annoyances. So, yes, Windows 11 is now on top – but not because everyone is excited. It got there mainly because Microsoft left no other choice.

Now the big question is whether those who made the switch will see a real improvement over time. Let's hope the updates keep coming and the overall experience gets better.
