Amazon 's subsidiary , Amazon Web Services (AWS), announced that it plans to invest 1.2 billion euros in Italy over the next five years to expand its data center operations in the country .

The company is looking to strengthen its cloud presence in Europe. AWS launched its first cloud in Italy in 2020, with the prospect of investing €2 billion by 2029.

The upcoming investments will support up to 5,500 new jobs across the AWS data center supply chain. The workers will work in construction, facilities maintenance, engineering, telecommunications, and positions in the broader local economy.
In May, Reuters reported that Amazon Web Services was in talks with Rome about investing in data in the country.
AWS will expand its operations to a data center in Milan, according to Italian newspaper Il Sole 24 Ore.

These investments align with AWS’s strategy to improve its infrastructure and support the growing demand for cloud in Europe. By expanding its data centers in Italy, AWS aims to provide local companies with improved access to advanced cloud technologies, facilitating digital transformation across a range of sectors.

It is worth noting that a few months ago, AWS also revealed a €15.7 billion investment in data in the northeastern region of Aragon, Spain. It also plans investments in Germany of €7.8 billion (until 2040).
