Washington: Cyberattack affected court systems

Court systems across Washington state have been out of service since Sunday due to a cyberattack .

This ongoing outage is affecting all systems , websites and related services. According to statements from affected state courts, the Administrative Office of the Courts (AOC) acted quickly upon discovery of the cyberattack and is now working to restore affected services.

“We took our systems offline as a precaution to secure them. We are working around the clock with top experts to restore services as quickly as possible,” said AOC Deputy Director Wendy Ferrell.

Some municipal and district courts, such as those in Bainbridge Island, Monroe, Puyallup, Milton and Thurston County, are operating to some extent (with limited services). The Pierce County Superior Court said internet access is available, as the impact on systems and operations is limited.

“There are some service outages due to unauthorized activity detected on the Washington Courts network,” said Pierce County Superior Court Chief Justice. “The Administrative Office of the Courts (AOC) has taken immediate steps to secure critical systems and is actively working to safely restore service.”
