Apple has sharply reduced production of its Vision Pro headset and, according to The Information, could completely stop production of the current version by the end of 2024.
According to the report, people involved in manufacturing the headset's components said that the production cut began in early summer. This means that Apple now has enough devices (inventory) to meet demand until next year.

The reduced production of the Vision Pro may also be related to the relatively low demand. The device offers augmented and virtual reality features and users can control it via their eyes, hands and voice . Reviews for the device, however, are mixed. Most users have expressed positive opinions about the hardware and technology of the Vision Pro. Many express enthusiasm for the innovative features and technology offered by the device, such as advanced augmented reality and high screen resolution. The attention to detail and elegant design are also features that are often mentioned positively.
However, there have been negative comments about the weight of the device, while there are also questions about the actual operation of the headset, the intuitiveness of the gesture-based control, and VR in general. In addition, there are consumers who express concerns about the price of the product. The cost of the Apple Vision Pro is considered by many to be too high, which may discourage its widespread acceptance in the market.

The Information said that Vision Pro suppliers have now produced enough parts for 500,000 to 600,000 headsets. Some factories suspended production of Vision Pro parts as early as May, taking into account sales forecasts. Warehouses are currently filled with tens of thousands of undelivered parts.
Apple is also said to have told Luxshare (a Chinese company that acts as an assembler of the Vision Pro) that it may have to end production in November. Luxshare is currently producing around 1,000 Vision Pro headsets per day.

Additionally, Apple appears to have suspended work on the second-generation Vision Pro to focus on developing a cheaper version. While work on the second-generation Vision Pro has apparently stopped, there are some indications that the company could release “an incremental product update with limited design changes,” such as a chip upgrade.
