Snapchat is getting a new design!

Snapchat is undergoing its biggest redesign in years, reducing its five tabs to three .

These tabs are as follows: one for messages and Stories with friends, one for the camera, and one for a full-screen video stream, similar to TikTok, from creators and publishers.

The redesign, known as “Simple Snapchat,” was announced Tuesday during Snap’s annual Partner Summit in Los Angeles. “It brings Stories closer to conversations, simplifies content discovery, and guides users directly to our camera to express themselves,” Snap CEO Evan Spiegel told The Verge.

Until now, Snapchat featured five main tabs: one for the Snap Map, private conversations, the camera, Stories, and Spotlight, the competitor to TikTok and Instagram Reels. With the rollout of this redesign to Snapchat’s 850 million users, the Snap Map will be accessible from the messaging tab, along with Stories from friends and creators you follow.

Alongside the camera, there will be a new, unified, full-screen video feed from publishers and creators. In this case, Snap has essentially merged Spotlight with content from media brands like the Wall Street Journal and the Daily Mail. The company earns most of its revenue through ads that run around that content, so it’s carefully moving forward with the redesign so it can understand the dynamic changes in content, according to Spiegel.

The goal of this redesign is to make Snapchat more accessible and offer an engaging way to watch videos that you would normally find on TikTok or Instagram. Spiegel believes this will lead to a better business for Snap creators, who collectively share more than a billion pieces of content monthly on the app.

“One of the most effective things creators have done is use short-form videos to expand their audience through Stories, and then drive revenue through our revenue sharing program,” he says. “I think this will be even easier with this app, where Stories from your friends or creators you follow will appear live on the chat page. So you can discover new creators or new content in full screen in the third tab.”
