During 2024, Google Maps for Android is expected to undergo a redesign that will remove most fullscreen UI, replacing it with sheet-based layouts.

The new sheets, with more rounded corners, allow for greater visibility of the map, emphasizing this feature. In addition to maintaining visual continuity when navigating the app, the redesign of Google Maps makes it look brighter and more pleasant.

To close these location tabs, there is a new button «x» at the top right or you can drag them back from the left or right edge. With the new redesign, you can no longer drag up on the search bar to view only the map.
The other significant change concerns guide search. The original user interface for entering your destination, with transport options and the list of recent locations, remains unchanged, occupying the entire screen.
However, once the destination is entered, only the start and end locations are displayed at the top of the screen. The option to toggle between features has been moved to the bottom of the screen for improved accessibility. Sheets are utilized throughout the user interface, providing a smoother and more enjoyable experience.
