Google announced that it added support for a highly requested feature in the messaging app, Google Chat. Users can now create text hyperlinks both in the Android version and the web version of Google Chat when composing or editing messages.

To add a hyperlink, you can select the desired text in your message and then click the link icon in the formatting toolbar at the bottom. You can also use the shortcut Ctrl+K on Windows/ChromeOS or Command+K on macOS to insert a URL into your message.

For reference, the same insert link icon is available in the Gmail compose window, which allows you to hyperlink website URLs as well as email addresses. Additionally, the Google Chat update also allows users to copy hyperlinks from other apps, such as Google Docs, Sheets, and Slides.
One of the advantages of having hyperlinks is that messages appear clearer and are more readable. Once added, the Google Chat app also displays a preview of the URL in the conversation thread for both the sender and the recipient.
Google Chat is primarily a messaging app for businesses, but a version of the app is also available for regular users. This update is available to all Google Workspace users and personal accounts.
The rollout of the feature will be gradual, so it may take some time before the functionality appears in your Google Chat app.
