One of the most eagerly anticipated annual events in the gaming industry has suffered a major blow. According to a report by IGN, the Electronic Entertainment Expo 2023 (E3 2023) will be the first event in the 18-year history of the Los Angeles trade show that will not feature the big three console, Microsoft, Sony, and Nintendo.

The three companies have apparently declined to make presentations and hold press conferences at this year's event. It's worth noting that Sony and Nintendo had already distanced themselves from it in recent years.

Nintendo has offered pre-recorded presentations in lieu of E3 press conferences since 2013, but has maintained a presence on the show floor. Sony has declined to participate in E3 entirely since 2019, following Nintendo's practice of producing other presentations throughout the year. Microsoft released its first pre-recorded presentation last week, indicating that all three console makers have found an alternative to physical E3 press conferences.
The loss of these three major companies, previously considered the centerpieces of the event, will not help the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) recover from pandemic. In 2020, the event was first canceled due to the pandemic situation, while in 2021 the event took place online. A hybrid E3 was planned for 2022, but things didn't go well and plans changed and it never took place.

Event organizer ReedPop will manage the planned hybrid E3 2023 alongside the show's traditional manager, the Entertainment Software Association . Other major gaming companies have yet to announce plans for E3 presentations

Nintendo could hold a “Nintendo Direct” presentation in June, independent of E3. Electronic Arts has yet to say whether it will hold an “EA Play” event this year alongside E3. Ubisoft has also said nothing so far.

Microsoft's exit from the event comes as a surprise because Xboxboss Phil Spencerrecently praised E3 in an interview with IGN. He said he wants to help the show succeed, suggesting that Microsoft's summer event will complement E3 2023, even if the company doesn't have anything on the show floor this year.
The three companies have not made any official announcement.
The event is scheduled for mid-June (June 13-16). The Electronic Entertainment Expo, or E3, is one of the biggest events of the year for anyone interested in gaming. Every year, hundreds of thousands of gamers around the world eagerly await the announcement of new titles and technologies at the event. However, the absence of the three major console manufacturers is sure to create a problem.
