How to install Google Chrome on Ubuntu Linux

Google Chrome is the dominant web browser, used by billions of people around the world. Unfortunately, the standard Ubuntu software repositories do not include this tool due to the lack of open source. Fortunately, despite the lack of native support for Chrome, Ubuntu users can install the web browser on their operating system.

Chrome

On Ubuntu systems, the apt package manager uses “.deb” files for installation packages. The initial step is to get the Google Chrome. Visit the official Google Chrome download page. Click “Get Chrome” for a fast and secure way to browse the web!

Please note that Google Chrome is only available in 64-bit version. Select the “64 bit .deb (for Debian/Ubuntu)” option and then click the “Accept and Install” button to download it. A “.deb” file will be downloaded to device .

Once your download is complete, you can find it in your “Downloads” folder – unless you have chosen a different location.

To start the installation process, double-click on the “.deb” file and wait for it to load. When it opens, the Ubuntu Software application will display the details of the Google Chrome package. Start the installation process by clicking on the “Install” button.

You will be asked to enter your password. Type your password and click the “Authenticate” button.

To launch Google Chrome, simply press the 'Super' key! This key is located between the “Ctrl” and “Alt” keys on the left side of your keyboard. Quickly search for “chrome” in the bar and click on the “Google Chrome” icon or press Enter to open it!

When you first start Chrome, you will be given the option to set it as your default browser and choose whether you want Google to receive crash reports and usage data. Make sure Chrome is customized the way you want it. After making your desired choices, press the “OK” button to confirm.

Make sure Google Chrome stays easily accessible by adding it to your dock! Simply right-click the icon in your dock and select “Add to Favorites” from the context menu.
