Journey To The Year 3000

Kickstarter campaigns have given a significant boost to indie developers and small publishing teams, allowing them to bring their games to PC and consoles. But the platform isn’t just limited to software projects – in 2019, ABQ Interactive harnessed the power of Kickstarter to launch an interactive audiobook adaptation of Edward Packard ’s “Journey To The Year 3000,” the first book to be listed under the iconic Choose Your Own Adventure title .

As the popularity of audiobooks continues to grow, it’s only natural that interactive audio fiction would follow. Luckily, ABQ Interactive isn’t the only company to agree – a plethora of titles can now be found on Amazon ’s Alexa ! Choose Your Own Adventure games are an innovative way to not only satisfy avid readers but also give gamers something new and exciting.
Choice Of The Dragon

In 2009, Choice of Games revolutionized interactive fiction by releasing the first browser-based game: Choice of the Dragon. And since then, they have grown to publish over a hundred titles! Plus, with the help of the ChoiceScript, writers can easily create unique stories for others to enjoy.
Matchbook Mobile , the same studio that brought us Who Was? - the first Google Assistant game - now brings us Choice of the Dragon ! In this interactive adventure, you can give your dragon wings and customize it to save the kingdom from misery or become a terrifying tyrant. It's all up to you!
Escape the Room
Ready to take on an audio Escape Room with Alexa, you can attempt the game’s various stages of increasing difficulty. Plus, you’ll never be left with a question – ask for contextual hints and they’ll come to you!

Are you ready for an exciting challenge that will leave you puzzled? Escape the Room offers just that – an exciting game in which you are trapped in a room and must search for objects and solve puzzles to find your way out. You can even invite friends or family to join the adventure by helping with clues! With five levels currently available (and more coming soon) as well as language options including English, French, German, Italian and Spanish – this promises to be an incredible journey of discovery unlike any other.
The Bard's Tale – Warlocks Of Largefearn
Despite the limited input options on Amazon Alexa devices beyond speech, developers can still innovate and create engaging games. Role-playing games are a great example of a genre that offers engaging storytelling for players to enjoy for long periods of time! With a little creative problem-solving, game designers can use this technology to deliver amazing gaming experiences through interactive fiction.

Interplay 's 1985 game The Bard's Tale allows players to form a party of six and wander through dungeons. However, while Amazon Alexa 's recent "rendition" tries to capture the same spirit of the original game, it leaves a lot to be desired when it comes to its features. Only four characters can join your party this time around - not the full party you experienced before - and even then, those dungeons feel lifeless compared to their predecessors. Ultimately, it could be argued that playing one of its other versions is a more enjoyable way for fans of The Bard's Tale series to truly enjoy what made it such an iconic experience all those years ago!

The Lost Legends Of Redwall: Escape The Gloomer
Conversational Adventure Games, a phrase coined by Scott Adams of Team Clopas, are revolutionizing the gaming genre by using voice as the primary input. These games deviate from typical CYOA in that they feature an open-world design and allow players to speak as they would in everyday life – giving them unparalleled freedom during gameplay.

Fans of Brian Jacques ' popular Redwall children's book series can enjoy a conversational adventure game set in their beloved world. Play through nine chapters of family fun – and look forward to more games from Team Clopas coming to Steam in the future.
Wraith: The Oblivion – The Orpheus Device
When you think of the world of darkness, Vampire: The Masquerade is often the first thing that comes to mind. However, vampires don't have sole control of this realm – Wraith: The Oblivion provides a gateway to the ghosts and gives players the chance to take on a spectral role to explore what death looks like in their own unique way.

For those who enjoy a good horror story, The Orpheus Device by Richard Dansky and Dave Grossman from Monkey Island will provide a chilling experience. But one has to wonder – does Alexa screams as input? We may never know until we try it!
Assassin's Creed Odyssey Spartan
Interactive fiction, adventure games, and classic RPGs make perfect sense for a format that relies on audio. But can you actually play an action game on Alexa? Unfortunately, the answer is no— Ubisoft did release “Assassin's Creed” for the device, but without any of the features that make it a truly unique experience. Don't get your hopes up if you're looking for intense gameplay!

If you're tired of the monotony of Alexa, Odyssey Spartan is the perfect solution for you. Get ready to tell your grocery list to a brave Spartan soldier and have him tell you jokes that only those who lived in Ancient Greece would understand! This app offers more than just voice assistance – it delivers an enjoyable interactive fiction experience that will make even the most difficult tasks seem like a breeze!
New World: Vitae Aeternum
You’ve probably heard of Amazon ’s famous entry into the MMO realm : New World . However, its voice-based counterpart isn’t as well-known. This may be because it doesn’t offer the same level of multiplayer and full- loot PvP experience that its predecessor did. Even so, it still offers a unique gaming experience!

Could an online multiplayer game with voice ever become a reality ? Could it possibly form a continuous tabletop role-playing game session, or would it end up in a typical Xbox Live lobby ? where communication is limited to profanity. Networking issues must of course be taken into account before such an idea can begin to take shape.
The Oregon Trail
The Oregon Trail, created by three Minnesota-based educators, was a groundbreaking game in its own right, allowing thousands of children to explore the American West in the 1800s and experience the computer game in the early 1970s.

However, it's important to keep in mind that titles like The Oregon Trail and Pioneer Trail are not officially recognized copies. Copyright lawyers would have an easier time deciphering their legitimacy. Perhaps the developers have played enough of game series like Ace Attorney to dare to challenge any arguments that claim they infringe on their copyrights.
Skyrim: Very Special Edition
In 2018, Bethesda Softworks entertained fans with a very accurate skit starring actor Keegan-Michael Key of the well-known comedy duo Key and Peele. The skit poked fun at the company's tendency to release its popular game Skyrim on every available platform – even a T1-84 graphing calculator! In response, dedicated fans created fan ports for that very device, while Bethesda followed through on its supposed satirical promise.

Just as depicted in the comic skit, Skyrim: Very Special Edition gives players the opportunity to explore quests, use dragon cries, and enjoy a sweet roll. After spending several hours playing this game in the comfort of your own home, it may not be just the guards of Whiterun asking you to stop yelling!
