Google is committed to keeping kids safe when using the Google Assistant. To ensure this, it’s adding four new kid-friendly voices and implementing new parental controls. With these safety features, parents can rest easy knowing that their kids are using the Assistant in a supervised and constructive way.

Google Assistant now has kid-friendly voices designed to help with storytelling and comprehension. Kids can activate these voices by asking Assistant to “change its voice.” 9to5Google reports that on Assistant devices with a screen, the new kid-friendly voices are represented by colorful tiles. This will make changing Assistant’s voice a more fun interaction.

Along with the new voices, Google is also rolling out a Kids Dictionary feature for Assistant, which will provide age-appropriate answers across all devices that use Voice Match.
Google is also adding new options to help parents limit their children's access to streaming music and video services on Assistant-enabled devices. The company is also introducing the ability for parents to choose which Assistant features children can use, such as making phone/video calls and the type of responses they receive.

In the coming weeks, parents will have access to new Google Assistant features that will allow them to manage what their children can do on the device and when. Parental controls are coming to the Google Home app, Family Link, and the Google Assistant app for iOS and Android.
These new Assistant features come just weeks after we learned that Google may double its hardware division by shifting resources away from Assistant.
