Change the look of Gmail (Mobile)

The Gmail mobile app offers two options: light and dark mode.

If you have an iPhone or iPad running iOS or iPadOS 13 or later, Gmail will automatically follow your device settings. The same goes for Android running Android 10 or later.

If you are using an older version of iOS or iPadOS or Android, you can enable dark or light mode within the app.

  • To do this, in the top left corner of the app, tap the hamburger menu (three horizontal lines).
  • Select “Settings” from the menu.
  • Then, select General Settings > Theme > Dark. On an iPhone or iPad, General Settings may not appear.
  • You can, of course, return to the default mode in the future by selecting “System Default“.
