On Thursday, Microsoft Edge 105 was released with several improvements, including security feature improvements and new group policies.
However, after upgrading to the new version, Windows users started reporting on Reddit and the Microsoft Answers forum that Microsoft Edge no longer starts.
This issue was also confirmed by readers BornCity and Deskmodder , with the latter discovering that the problem was caused by a deprecated MetricsReportingEnabled policy in the Windows registry
This policy allows users to enable or disable the reporting of usage or error-related data to Microsoft.

However, when this policy is present, whether set to “0” or “1”, Microsoft Edge 105 will start, immediately suspend , and then terminate without displaying the browser window.

Microsoft Edge General Manager Sean Lyndersayconfirmed that the deprecated policy is causing the bug and that it will be fixed in the next Stable version of the browser.
If you find that your Microsoft Edge no longer launches, you can delete the MetricsReportingEnabled value from the HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Edge or HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Edge.
AskWoody's Susan Bradley said that many of the people affected by this issue used the " I don't want telemetry " setting in an older version of the O&O ShutUp tool, which appears to have created this registry value.

Another tool for generating this value is PrivateZilla.
Until the next version of Microsoft Edge is released, users can remove MetricsReportingEnabled to use the app without any impact, as the policy has been removed since Microsoft Edge 89.
