Apple Watch Series 8 can detect if you have a fever

The Apple Watch Series 8 will reportedly include a body temperature sensor that will alert you when you have a fever, according to Bloomberg 's Mark Gurman . The device won't provide an exact reading, but it could send a notification urging you to see a doctor or use a special thermometer.

This isn't the first time Gurman has mentioned the possibility of the Apple Watch Series 8 including a temperature sensor. He first reported that Apple was working on the feature in June 2021, saying it would likely arrive with the company's 2022. He rescinded that prediction in January, warning fans that blood sugar monitoring was a handful of features that were a few years away.

However, a few months later, he said the Apple Watch Series 8 would include a body temperature sensor, provided the feature passed Apple’s internal testing guidelines. Now, writing in the latest edition of his Power On, Gurman says he believes the feature is “an opportunity” for the standard Series 8 and the oft-rumored ruggedized version that Apple is building for extreme athletes.

Gurman says other changes to the Apple Watch Series 8 “will likely be minor.” Echoing his reports from last week, he suggests the accessory will have the same processing power as the Series 7 and 6.He also says the higher-end Series 8 could include an updated display. Another device that reportedly won’t get many upgrades is the AirPods Pro . Gurman writes that they won’t include heart rate or body temperature tracking features, as some reports have suggested. “I’ve been told that neither feature is likely to make it to the 2022 update, though both improvements are being explored internally and could one day be released,” he says.
