Is it time to change your smartphone? 7 warning signs

When you buy a new Android smartphone, you expect to have it for a few years. As time goes by, however, you'll notice that phone starts to experience some problems, no matter how much you take care of it. Below are eight key signs that it's probably time to make a change and replace your Android device with a new smartphone.

1. The battery runs out quickly

A smartphone battery draining quickly is one of the most annoying things and also the most obvious sign that it's time to replace your device. In theory, there are ways to increase your Android battery life, but they may not help much if the battery problem is serious.

Over time, battery capacity deteriorates. After several hundred recharge cycles, a battery loses up to a fifth or more of its ability to hold a charge.

So instead of constantly charging your smartphone or relying on a power bank, you might want to get a phone with a new battery. A cheaper alternative is to simply replace the battery in your current phone if the manufacturer still sells it.

3. Not receiving new updates

A new version of Android is usually released once a year around September, bringing new useful features. However, it also comes with increased demands on your phone's resources. For better or worse, though, manufacturers don't release updates forever.

If you've bought a new flagship smartphone like the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra, you get four years of operating system updates. However, some manufacturers only offer two or three years of updates. Along with the operating system updates, your phone will also stop receiving security. This can leave it vulnerable to cyberattacks. The best solution is to switch to a new smartphone to stay safe.

3. It's too slow

Older phones often take longer to respond to opening apps and other actions. Upgrading your Android version can place greater demands on phone . New apps can also cause similar problems, especially if they are resource-intensive.

The more apps that use up resources, the slower your phone becomes. Upgrading your Android smartphone will give you increased resources to run your phone's software, whether it's Android itself or the apps you install.

4. Apps crash frequently

App crashes are common on Android smartphones. Sometimes, it can be due to the design of the app or potential bugs. Other times, however, the problem is compatibility with your phone. Some apps may not run on phones with old software.

If you notice that apps are constantly crashing on your phone, this could be a sign of a bigger problem. Apps may be underperforming due to the phone's RAM or CPU. If the available resources are insufficient, the app will crash.

5. The phone shows signs of wear and tear

When you have a smartphone for a long time, some accident can happen. A scratched or broken screen, a crack in the camera lens, etc. When such issues exist and they are not easily fixed, then there is a problem.

Physical wear and tear can also play a role. Your phone may be exposed to the sun, cold, or even rain when it shouldn't be. You may also be pressing your fingers on the screen more than you should. Such wear and tear can limit the effectiveness of your phone over time.

6. You are running out of storage space

It's standard for modern Android phones to have at least 128GB of internal storage on the base model. However, if you've had your phone for at least three to five years (so we're talking about a fairly old model), it's likely to have a maximum storage capacity of 16, 32, or 64GB.

Updates, apps, and various files that you may need are consuming more and more space these days. Therefore, you may be facing a problem with the available storage space.

7. It has a camera that takes poor quality photos

These days, most people use their smartphones to take photos and videos. Unfortunately, there's not much you can do to improve photos if your camera is poor. Photo editing apps can help, but they can't mimic the shots from a high-quality smartphone camera.

If photography is important to you, then the only solution is to change your Android smartphone and replace it with a new one that has a better camera.

Unfortunately, no smartphone can work efficiently forever. The above are signs that you probably need to make a change if you want to have a functional phone.
