For years, Instagram has refused to release an iPadOS of its app, forcing iPad users to use the iPhone version on the tablet’s larger screen. In a tweet on Sunday, Instagram chief Adam Mosseri insisted that it’s not going to happen anytime soon.

When pressed by MKBHD about whether the team size would increase if a native app were available, Mosseri agrees that it would. However, he adds that there are several reasons for the lack of focus, such as increasing overhead costs.
Despite the continued lack of progress, Mosseri says it could be released at some point. The “final features” include an iPad app along with features that may eventually see the light of day, such as “dark mode support, scheduled posts,” and “deleting a photo from a carousel.”

The list of “finally features” seems to include elements that could practically be built by a small number of determined developers. The team may be “weaker than you think,” but it also has the significant resources of Meta behind it, so expanding the team or getting temporary help shouldn’t be a problem.
