It’s been a while since Google last killed a working app for no apparent reason. But it looks like things are finally changing as the company is preparing to shut down its AR-based Measure app. The Measure app has been around since the days of Project Tango. The app made its way to millions of Android phones as Google ended the Project Tango initiative and replaced it with ARCore. But it looks like the app has reached its end of life (EOL).

As spotted by Android Police, Google has delisted the Measure app from the Google Play Store. The app still appears for users who have previously downloaded the app at least once or currently have it installed on their device, but the changelog now states that this is the “final version. No further updates will be released.” The description has also been updated with the following message:
This application is no longer supported and will not be updated. Users who installed this application in the past can continue to use it on compatible devices.
As with other ARCore applications, the Measure app did not require special hardware and used the device's camera to measure the height, width, and length of objects. Looking at user reviews and comments, it appears that the app was plagued with problems and performed poorly. The app received a final update in January of last year.

If you have installed the app on your device, it will continue to work, but there will be no new updates. In the meantime, if you are looking for an alternative, the AR Ruler app appears to do the job quite well and is also much richer in features than the Measure app.
