Intel: After campaigns against M1 chip, says it wants to make Apple silicon chips

Intel Apple

In November, Apple began shipping Macs with its own M1 chips , and it plans to replace all of the Intel it has used in its Mac lineup for years. This news is not good news for Intel. Last week, the company launched an ad campaign against the M1 chip starring Justin Long. Now, however, Intel says it wants to make silicon chips for Apple.

Intel CEO Pat Gelsingershared some details about Intel’s future plans. One of them involves the establishment of a separate “Intel Foundry Services” business and the construction of two new chip factories in Arizona. Intel’s goal is to manufacture chips for other companies and become a major provider of such technologies in the United States and Europe.

According to Gelsinger, Intel's plans include approaching Apple as a customer. Intel wants to produce Apple silicon chips for use in Apple devices, if Apple decides to use Intel's services.

Apple currently relies on Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) to produce all of its A-series and Apple silicon chips used in iPhones, iPads, Macs and other devices. TSMC is Apple's sole supplier. Gelsinger hopes that Apple and Intel can reach an agreement that will allow Apple to diversify its supply chain.

However, if Intel really wants to woo Apple and make a chip deal with it, the ad campaigns against the M1 chip will have to stop. Intel hired former “I'm a Mac” actor Justin Long to create a series of ads comparing M1‌ Macs to Intel PCs. Of course, the ads show the superiority of Intel PCs.

Intel's ads promote the versatility of PC laptops and claim that no one uses Macs for gaming. They also point out the limited ports on Macs.

Intel's advertising campaign against the M1 Macs is taking place both on Twitter and on a site that compares PCs and Macs.
