Amazon's new logo changes after it reminded them of Hitler

Amazon has been the target of users lately , due to its new logo.

Over the past decade, other logos have been criticized, like Airbnb 's, which was compared to a butt, while some thought Slack 's revamped hashtag logo looked like a swastika. People also revolted when Instagram replaced its retro camera logo with a simplistic camera.

And Amazon was accused of unintentionally resembling Hitler with its logo.

Last month, the e-commerce giant released an update to its flagship app , complete with a brand-new logo. It replaced the long-standing shopping cart image, which had been in place for more than five years, with Amazon’s smiling arrow on a package topped with a blue square with notches. Placed on top of the smile line, it looked a bit like German dictator Adolf Hitler’s mustache, as users pointed out on Twitter.

Amazon updated its app logo again this week, folding the blue square upwards.

Amazon spokesman Craig Andrews did not directly address the claims that the logo was likened to Hitler. "We designed the new icon to evoke anticipation, excitement, and joy when customers begin their shopping journey on their phone, just as they do when they see our boxes on their doorstep," he said in a statement.

Social media makes it easy for experts to critique and examine a brand's corporate images. This public feedback can really help the design process, said Jason Forrest , creative director at Digital Ink .

Not all corporate brand responses are necessarily positive, Forrest said, but the outcry means one thing: people are emotionally invested in a brand.

These logos are literally part of our daily lives, said Jesse Reed, a partner at design firm Order. That's more true now than ever, as many people are tethered to their phones and rely on them for work, communication and entertainment during the ongoing pandemic.
