It was 1977 when George Lucas introduced us to the fantastical world of Star Wars, through the film of the same name that became a global phenomenon. Fans of Star Wars and specifically the well-known video game Star Wars: Republic Commando can rejoice, as the video game is now coming to PS4 and Nintendo Switch.
On April 6th, gamers will be able to enjoy the classic Star Wars in all its glory, as we are talking about an HD-remastered version.
The original game was exclusively available for Xbox and Windows PC and was later ported to Xbox One.
Star Wars: Republic Commando was first released in 2005 and was developed by Lucasfilm Games, then known as LucasArts. The game takes place during the Clone Wars and players take on the role of RC-1338 (or “Boss”), a clone trooper, known as a clone commando, who leads the special operations unit Delta Squad on a series of missions to various planets.
Even if someone hasn't played the original game, they'll most likely know Delta Squad from the TV show Star Wars: The Clone Wars in the episode "Witches From the Mist."
Since its release, the video game has gained a loyal following and received rave reviews. It is considered one of the best Star Wars games ever made.
The game returns refreshed by Aspyr Media
Aspyr Media is behind the new Star Wars. It's the gaming company that also brought Star Wars Episode 1: Racer to PS4 and Nintendo Switch.
While the original game included single-player and multiplayer components, Star Wars: Republic Commando for PS4 and Nintendo will only feature a campaign mode.
Additionally, gamers will also be able to play on PS5 via backwards compatibility.
The new Star Wars: Republic Commando will feature updated controls for the DualShock 4 and DualSense controllers, as well as a series of new trophies to hunt.
The video game will cost 12.27 euros or 14.99 dollars and is set to be released on the respective online stores of both consoles on April 6, 2021.
