Microsoft is investigating a newly discovered issue that causes deleted messages to reappear in the inbox of Outlook.com accounts.
The exact cause behind these emails that cannot be deleted from Outlook.com is unknown, but the company says it is working intensively to find a solution.
Solution available
But until the issue is fully resolved, Microsoft provides a solution to get rid of any emails that keep coming back to the inbox after deleting them.
"In the meantime, if the messages being restored are from connected accounts, you may be able to go to the inbox and delete the emails from there to resolve the issue," Microsoft explains.
“For example, if you have a Gmail, go to Gmail.com and delete the email from there.”
Another Outlook.com issue where images are either corrupted or not visible in an email has also been under investigation since August 2020.
Microsoft recommends that users affected by this error “ask the sender to resend the image as an attachment” as a workaround.
Connection issues resolved
Earlier today, Redmond fixed another issue that was triggering “ 503 errors” when users tried to access Outlook.com, OneDrive, SharePoint Online, and Power BI.
Further investigation into the current issue found that it only affected specific consumer services, including both Outlook.com and OneDrive.com, with some users also potentially experiencing access issues with SharePoint Online when trying to sign in with a guest account.
"When attempting to connect to Outlook.com, users may have seen various error messages indicating that the service was unavailable, as well as latency and timeouts that resulted in 503 errors," the company says.
Microsoft's investigation later discovered that the errors were caused by inadequate infrastructure and they fixed it by rerouting Outlook.com traffic to an alternative infrastructure.
