InnerSloth , the creator of the popular game Among Us , faced an attack that affected its players last week. Specifically, sometime last Thursday, players fell victim to a spam attack that bombarded their in- game chats .

The spam attack that hit the game’s participants sent a character called “Eris Loris” into their chats, urging them to subscribe to his YouTube. Some of the messages took on a threatening tone, warning players that if they didn’t subscribe, devices would be hacked. Upon investigation, the YouTube channel promoted by the malware appeared to promote various cheats and hacks for games.
Players shared some screenshots of the spam attack on several social media platforms, including Twitter.
Once InnerSloth was made aware of the issue, it immediately began investigating the issue while also working on an update to fix the situation. The game studio advised the community to avoid participating in public online games and instead opt for private games with people they could trust.
Forest Willard, one of InnerSloth's developers, began rolling out the emergency update later that evening.
Despite its simple premise and graphics, Among Us has become a huge hit with players around the world. Part of its huge success could be attributed to the COVID-19, which has forced many people to stay home, resulting in them becoming addicted to the game.
In the game, players try to keep their spaceship running by completing various tasks, while one of their Partners, who is a rogue, tries to secretly eliminate them. The Partners must then try to expel the rogue and remove him from the game.
The game is so popular that it was also used in efforts to mobilize young voters to vote in the 2020 US presidential election
