Lighting is, undeniably, the most important component for taking a good photograph. If you have a Pixel phone, you can correct the lighting in a photo with a feature in Google Photos called Portrait Light.
Portrait Light is an exclusive feature of Pixel phones, starting with the Google Pixel 2 and newer releases. It allows you to change the position of the light source if it is missing in the original photo. It is easy to use and remarkably effective.
This feature is specifically for photos of people and will not appear as an option for pet images or anything else. Make sure the Google Photos app is up to date before using it.

To get started, open the “Google Photos” app on the Pixel phone and find a photo that could use a lighting setting. We found that Portrait Light works best on selfies.
Next, click the Edit icon on the bottom toolbar.

Swipe from the right to the bottom row and then click “Adjust”.

If you can use it on the specific image, the “Portrait Light” will be an option in the adjustment toolbar, click it.

A circular handle will appear at the top of the photo, indicating where the light source is located. Simply drag the circle around the image to adjust the lighting.
Below the photo, you can also drag the “bar” to adjust the brightness of the lighting.

Press “Auto” to move the lighting to a setting that matches the original photo and, if you wish, increase the brightness from there.

When you are satisfied with the lighting, press “Done” to continue.

Finally, click “Save Copy” to save changes .

Portrait Light can have a big impact on images that have low lighting. It is a powerful tool that can help you make the most of your smartphone camera.
