The Central Processing Unit (CPU) is the brains of your Mac. Its specifications determine how quickly your Mac processes your information. The type of CPU varies depending on the model you have. Here's how to quickly check which CPU is in your computer.

First, click the Apple menu in the top left, then click “About This Mac.”.

In the menu that appears, you'll get a quick rundown of specs , including the type of CPU next to "Processor." In the image below, we see that this iMac has a Quad-Core Intel Core i7 CPU.

To get even more information about your Mac's CPU, click on “System Report.”

Click on “Hardware” in the list on the left. The window on the right will then display detailed information about your Mac’s processor, including all of the following:
- The name and speed of the processor
- The number of processors and cores
- L2 cache size
- L3 cache size
When you're done, just close “System Report.” You'll know a lot more about your machine than you did before.
If your Mac is a little slow, there are several ways you can speed it up before you upgrade. Knowledge is power!
