Devuan GNU + Linux is a Debian distribution that uses sysvinit or OpenRC as default systems, instead of systemd, which is the default Debian. Recently, a new version of the operating system was released, called Devuan Beowulf 3.0.0, which is based on Debian Buster 10.4 and contains the Linux kernel 4.19.
Devuan Beowulf 3.0.0: The new Debian version without Systemd
The first stable version of Devuan was released in 2017, under the name Devuan 1.0.0 Jessie. Shortly after, version 2.0.0 ASCII was released. Today, two years later, version 3.0.0 has been released, aiming to improve and update certain parts of the operating system.
One of the most significant changes in this release is the addition of support for IBM Power systems. In addition to the i386, AMD64, ARMel, ARMhf, and ARM64 architectures, Devuan now also supports the ppc64el architecture.
Other features of Devuan 3.0.0 include a new boot menu, a new display manager, and new themes. Additionally, when installing the system, users can now choose one of the following desktop environments: Xfce, Cinnamon, KDE, LXQt, MATE. Even if none of these are to your liking, you can use the repositories to download your favorite desktop environment.

In addition to what we just mentioned, version 3.0.0 also includes some changes to the device management packages. More specifically, this version brings the eudev packages, which replace udev. The change of packages is done automatically.
Moving on, we come to the new features of Devuan 3.0.0. One of them is that it allows us to use the X serverwithout having administrator rights. For example, if you want to open the X server directly from the TTY terminal, you can use the startx and xinit programs, after first installing the elogind and libram-elogind packages.
Although sysvinit is the default init system of the operating system, users now have the option to install other systems, such as OpenRC or runit.
