PyTorch3D: An open-source library for 3D deep learning

PyTorch3DUnderstanding 3D plays a crucial role in advancing the capabilities of AI systems. Facebook AI Research (FAIR) today introduced PyTorch3D, a library with unique capabilities that allows researchers and developers to combine deep learning with 3D data.

Additionally, Facebook is now open-sourcing Mesh R-CNN. Mesh R-CNN is a system created last year that can transform 2D shapes into 3D objects. According to FAIR engineer Nikhila Ravi, the researchers created the new PyTorch3D by taking cues from Mesh R-CNN and recent work by researchers on 3D projects.

3D rendering is essential for rendering 3D objects or scenes in mixed or virtual reality environments. It can also be used to address many of the challenges facing AI. For example, it could help autonomous vehicles understand the location of nearby objects.

PyTorch3D comes with many new features 3D, not available in any of the existing 3D libraries.

“With PyTorch3D, researchers can introduce all the new features and use them together with the existing system in PyTorch. This significantly reduces the working time for 3D design research, which requires a lot of work and experience. We want to try to reduce this time,” said Ravi.

Researchers believe that PyTorch3D will make research faster and more flexible .

The release of PyTorch3D follows the PyRobot robotics framework, which was introduced last year.
