The new Clear History tool, announced by Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg , has been released globally and gives users greater control over their privacy.
The Clear History tool is part of a new option in Settingscalled Off-Facebook activity. This option allows users to see who is interacting with their social network even when they are not using Facebook.
As Facebook, various businesses send information to the company about a user's activities on their website and app, based on which Facebook serves relevant ads. Through the Off-Facebook activity tool, users can access this information and remove it from their account.
In 2018, when discussions about the new tool began, the name Clear History Tool was considered confusing to the user, as someone might assume that they were removing their published data from the platform . The name given to the tool now clearly explains the type of data that can be deleted.
The name also separates the processes that collect data from those that share data. Data collection by apps isn't a major issue for users, but the sharing of their data and the way apps don't protect the data is the main reason why everyone wanted a tool like Off-Facebook activity.
We've often heard that companies sell user data for targeted advertising, and Facebook's new tool may help reduce this practice.
Facebook itself states that after the Cambridge Analytica, due to which data of approximately 87 million users of the social network was leaked, it was led to create a tool through which the user can limit the use of data and remove their data from history.
