Online pharmacy PlanetDrugsDirect reveals data breach

PlanetDrugsDirect Canadian drug sales site PlanetDrugsDirectis notifying customers via emailof a data breach that may have affected some personal and financial information.

PlanetDrugsDirect is an active member of CIPA (Canadian International Pharmaceuticals Agency) and is licensed to sell medicines to Canadian and American citizens as well as others. The site provides its customers with direct access to affordable prescription and over-the-counter medications and has approximately 400,000 customers.

Data breach

The Canadian service notified its customers (their number is unknown) of a recent security, saying the following: “Our investigation to date indicates that the data that may have been exposed includes name, address, email address, phone number, medical information and payment information.”

"At this time, there is no evidence to suggest that passwords for online accounts have been compromised," he said.

PlanetDrugsDirect is investigating the case and will provide more information soon.

"We assure you that we are working hard to complete the investigation and rectify the situation," the company said in the email it sent to customers.

What information does the site collect?

The information typically collected is: name, mailing address, email, phone number, occupation, other employment, name of the person who referred the customer, name of the customer's doctor (and contact information), gender, date of birth, drug allergies, medications, family medical history information, personal medical history information, credit card information, etc.

Customers should check their bank accounts and credit cards

The company recommends that customers carefully monitor their bank account and credit card activity and notify their bank if they notice any suspicious activity.
