Intel: new updates for Xeon, Skylake-X, Kaby, & Coffee Lake CPUs

Intel has just released a handful of fixes for the Spectre vulnerability. The company has released patches for more processors, in addition to the Skylake chipsets it released earlier this month.

The new updates apply to the Skylake-X, Kaby Lake, and Coffee Lake CPUs, as well as some data center chips such as Intel Xeon Scalable and Intel Xeon D. intel

The company says it is continuing partnerships with other companies to include them in future firmware updates.

“We have released microcode updates to our customers and partners on Kaby Lake and Coffee Lake platforms, as well as additional Skylake platforms. New microcode is available in most cases through OEM firmware updates. We continue to encourage people to keep their systems up to date,” Intel says.

Intel released security updates for Meltdown and a variant of Spectre in January, and device manufacturers included them in their firmware updates released the same month after the two vulnerabilities were disclosed.

However, the company discovered that the Spectre Variant 2 fixes were causing unexpected reboots on its processors and ultimately decided to pull the updates until it discovered and fixed the problem.

In early February, Intel finally released updated patches for Spectre Variant 2, but they only affected Skylake chipsets.

It should be mentioned that the company has currently received 32 class action lawsuits, for the Meltdown and Spectre vulnerabilities fiasco, but also for the way it managed the information for its own benefit during the sale of its shares on the stock exchange...
