WiFi 6 has arrived and it's 4 times faster than the current one

fast

One of the topics that has been on the minds of the tech lately is, of course, the possibility of faster internet. And now, the WiFi Alliance has officially announced its certification program for next-generation networks, also known as WiFi 6. The company has decided to now use a more understandable name when referring to its standards.

The new WiFi 6, therefore, represents the WiFi 802.11ax standard and can provide lower transmission latency and higher speeds , approximately 4 times higher than the current ones (WiFi 5). Theoretically, it could reach speeds greater than 10Gbps, however in the real world they will be lower.

Among various other technical improvements, WiFi 6 also allows for the use of the newer security , which was released to fix some major flaws in WPA2.

As you may know, the older WiFi AC (WiFi 5) only works with the 5GHz band, although it offers gigabit speeds. WiFi 6, on the other hand, is designed to operate from 1 GHz to 6 GHz. However, for users, it provides more flexibility by adding support for the 2.4 GHz band as well.

Operating in higher frequency bands improves theoretical speeds, but at the same time reduces the range of the WiFi network, making it difficult for the signal to pass through walls. This is where 2.4Ghz comes in handy.

WiFi 6 is better at simultaneously transferring data to a large number of users. In addition, it uses TWT (target wake time) to improve battery life on WiFi devices, including IoT (Internet of Things).

There aren't many devices that are capable of the new fast WiFi 6 yet. However, some top models, such as the Galaxy S10/S10+ and the iPhone 11, Pro, and Pro Max, feature the new next-generation WiFi technology. There are also several devices from Intel, Broadcom, Qualcomm, Ruckus, and others that are built to power WiFi 6 in smartphones and computers.
