Windows 10 Mail App comes with improved user interface

Microsoft is now testing ads in the Windows 10 Mail App, but as some have noted, this rather controversial update may also bring a number of welcome improvements.

Windows

One of them is an upgraded user interface, which, as spotted by some Reddit users, makes the Windows 10 Mail app a bit more modern.

There are new icons, as well as photo previews and calendar shortcuts moved to the left sidebar for a simpler look that focuses on your mail folders and message list.

While the appearance of the Mail app is improving, the improvements Microsoft is bringing to the client are being received with mixed feelings by insiders.

For example, the screenshot you see here shows the Mail app taking up most of the screen, but the layout and fonts Microsoft show that it can only display five different messages at once. This is seen by many as a waste of space, especially if you receive tons of emails every day, and somehow doesn't align with Microsoft's push for productivity.

However, it's worth noting that this visual overhaul is just in the testing phase right now, as the update is currently available exclusively to Windows insiders.

As for when and if it could be rolled out to production devices, that depends on user feedback , but if all goes well, the update could get the green light in the coming weeks

Meanwhile, those who are not satisfied with the way the default mail app is improved in Windows 10 can always switch to third-party email programs. Mozilla Thunderbird is still one of the best options, and while it lacks the modern look of the Windows 10 Mail App, it is considered by many to be a useful tool for everyday productivity.
