Windows Phone and Windows 10 Mobile aren't necessarily the best mobile platforms to use these days, but that doesn't mean all users have moved on to Android and iOS.
Unfortunately, it appears that those still using Windows Phone 8.1 can no longer download new versions of apps from the Microsoft Store, as a bug is plaguing updates, according to a developer.
@poppyto, who is the creator of the Tubecast app for Windows phones, claims that the Microsoft Store has been experiencing this issue for the past three weeks, and so far the company has not shown any sign of at least trying to fix it.
"It looks like the WP8.1 Store is dead, you haven't been able to download new app versions for 3 weeks now and @MicrosoftStore is unwilling or unable to fix it. I thought it was July 2019, Good Bye WP8.1 users?" he said in a tweet posted earlier today.
While it's unlikely that Microsoft will kill off Microsoft Store users for Windows Phone 8.1 without prior notice, it's important to know that the company has announced a deadline as to when this is expected to happen.
On July 1, 2019, the company will officially abandon the app store for Windows Phone 8.x devices, so beyond that date, updates would effectively stop being offered to the phones.
“July 1, 2019 – Microsoft will stop bringing app updates to Windows Phone 8.x or older devices.
"You will still be able to publish updates to all apps (including those packaged with Windows Phone 8.x or earlier). However, these updates will only be available for Windows 10 devices," Microsoft recently said, according to MSPU.
It remains to be seen whether this is a bug or not, but given that the official Microsoft Store Twitter account has already responded to the tweet, there's a chance it's just an issue that will be resolved soon.
