Microsoft announced the Surface Hub 2 earlier this year, and now the company is using the Ignite Conference to share more details about this second-generation model.
The giant company will split the launch of the Surface Hub 2 into two different parts with the first model called the Surface Hub 2S launching next year.
Debuting in the second quarter of 2019, Microsoft will use the 50.5-inch 4K display with a 3:2 aspect ratio, webcam, and touchscreen that will be part of the new generation. However, the 2S will come with the software that powered the original Surface Hub, so it won't include features like screen switching or multiple account support.
The second version of the Surface Hub 2 will be released in 2020 as the 2X and will include upgrades to both hardware and software.
The most important feature will be support for hardware upgrades with access to a removable processor cartridge that sits on the back of the device. Technically, Microsoft will allow customers to replace the chips with new ones, which will also receive software updates to add new features.
This second Surface Hub configuration will also offer the revolutionary new display with swivel features and will come with Microsoft's Office 365 for increased productivity in an office environment.
Microsoft hasn't shared pricing details for the next-generation Surface Hub yet, but it goes without saying that it won't be cheap. More information will be provided as we get closer to the unveiling of the first model next year.
The first generation Surface Hub launched in two different versions, though the main difference was the screen size. The 55-inch model was available in the United States for $8,999, while the larger version with an 84-inch screen was available for $21,999.
