Microsoft has just announced the general availability of its Office 2019 productivity suite for both Windows and Mac.
The new version includes all the improvements Microsoft has made to Office 365 ProPlus over the past three years, and despite the fact that Office 2019 comes with all the updates, the company still encourages customers to switch to the subscription service.
What's important to know is that Office 2019 is marked as a single release, which means that no new feature updates will be added. The current feature set is what you'll be stuck with until the next major release, and that's one of the reasons why Office 365 makes more sense.
Microsoft is constantly rolling out updates to Office 365 and new features are added regularly, so customers interested in such improvements should switch to the subscription-based offering.
Office 2019 is available today for licensed customers, and will be available to all customers, consumers, and commercial partners in the coming weeks.
“Office 2019 is a valuable update for customers who aren’t yet ready for the cloud. And every time we release a new internal version of Office, our customers ask if this will be our last. We’re happy to confirm that we’ll continue to release updates in the future,” the company explains.
“While the cloud offers real benefits in productivity, security and total cost of ownership, we recognize that every customer is at a different point in their adoption of cloud services. We see the Office on-premises version as an important part of our commitment to giving customers the flexibility they need to move to the cloud at their own pace.”.
Despite Office 2019 coming with support for Mac, Project 2019, Vision 2019, Access 2019, and Publisher 2019 are available exclusively on Windows.
