Malicious hack released for Fortnite with adware features

Scammers and malware creators often take advantage of the huge demand for several video games, and try to trap users of the original platform by offering additional programs with more features. Many times these additional programs, whether they are hacks for games, or patches or activators for pirated programs, contain hidden malicious functions that the user is not aware of, as was the case with a Fortnite hack.

Rainway , strange changes are performed on the computer, such as the installation of a new root certificate. In addition, after the adware is activated, all advertisements displayed on the system are replaced with its own. Finally, it performs a MITM (man in the middle attack) by routing all internet traffic through a proxy.

Rainway of the adware has been contained as the file is no longer available for download, and one of the accounts used by the adware to serve ads has been terminated. Unfortunately, while the file was available, it recorded over 78,000 downloads.

This is not the only malware targeting Fortnite players. We have seen many examples of malicious attempts to exploit large audiences. A few weeks ago we saw how many fake copies of Fortnite are on the Google Play Store, even before the official release of the game, which are nothing more than malware and adware. Like these apps, like today's malware, it is promoted through many videos on Youtube.
