When it comes to two-in-one tablets, there's no doubt that Apple 's iPad lineup is the clear winner. However, it seems that the company's arch-rival, Microsoft , is planning to release its own low-cost 2-in-1 tablet to compete.
According to a report from Bloomberg, Microsoft's efforts could materialize in the second half of 2018. The upcoming device will have a 10-inch display. It's worth noting that the screen size is the same as that of the regular iPad, but smaller than the size of the 12-inch iPad Pro.
There are a few features that will come with the lower price. The $400 device will have a shorter battery life than the iPad Pro, possibly up to 4 hours. A smaller battery will also help the device take up less space, about 20%, and will weigh less compared to the iPad Pro.
As for storage, Redmond will offer two options, 64GB and 128GB. Intel will take care of the processors and graphics. Models with built-in LTE are also expected to be released at some point.
It goes without saying that Microsoft's second attempt at making low-cost 2-in-1 tablets a reality will be of great interest. In the past, Microsoft's Surface RT devices have failed and proved to be a bitter story for the company, as have its ambitions for Windows Mobile.
