Of the wide variety of PC manufacturers these days, System76 is one of the few that focuses on Linux-based operating systems. Last year, when Ubuntu decided to abandon Unity development and return to GNOME, System76 chose to turn to Ubuntu and create something new and beautiful.
Pop! _OS is the result of that decision, and its development is happening at an ever-increasing pace. Last year, System76 CEO Carl Richell said that the company builds its products with a focus on “software development, scientific computing, DevOps, and STEM.” Pop! _OS is no different.
Since Pop! _OS is based on Ubuntu, the release of Ubuntu 18.04 LTS made sense to be followed by Pop! _OS 18.04. System76 continues to improve the operating system and continues to make its own tweaks for a better experience.
For this release, the installer has been improved. The overall visual design and drive selection panel have been updated. It also supports custom partitions and LVM partitions.
System76 firmware notifications can now be displayed in the operating system notification system – both in Ubuntu and Pop!_OS.
The battery indicator has also been improved, and now you can see the power status more clearly. A selection option has also been added, to manage the settings in a better way. You can now choose between High Performance, Balance and Battery Life.
It goes without saying that the developers have also worked to improve the look and feel of the operating system. New artwork has been added for a more pleasing appearance.
