More and more users are deleting their Facebook accounts

The growing tension that has been created in recent days around the Facebook name has led many to delete their accounts, and it seems that one of them is WhatsApp founder Brian Acton.

WhatsApp, which is arguably the leading messaging platform, is owned by Facebook, so hearing the company's founder talk about deleting Facebook accounts is quite surprising.

Facebook bought WhatsApp in 2014 for $16 billion, but while its co-founder, Jan Koum, is still part of the company, Acton decided to step down last year and invest in messaging platform Signal.

But why is he against Facebook? His stance is likely related to the recent rumors about Facebook's involvement in the 2016 US elections.Facebook

London-based analytics firm Cambridge Analytica is accused of violating the platform's terms by collecting and sharing the information of 50 million users without their consent. The data was then used to support Donald Trump's campaign with highly targeted ads for each individual.

Due to this new scandal, Facebook shares fell 2.6% last week as concerns grew about data mining and a growing number of users decided to delete their accounts.

It's interesting to see what Facebook's next moves will be, but if the founder of WhatsApp is saying goodbye to the platform, it's pretty clear that the social network is in the middle of a major crisis.
