Email fraud is the number one risk for businesses in 2018, according to new reports from Proofpoint and Clearswift.

Reports from Proofpoint and Clearswift show that businesses around the world should be concerned about email phishing campaigns. Today, two reports highlight email phishing as the top issue for global businesses. However, a third of employees believe it is a lack of support as there is not always good communication between IT and management.
Proofpoint's 2018 survey asked 2,250 IT professionals in the US, UK, France, Germany and Australia to report whether they had experienced any email phishing incidents in the past two years. The results showed that 75% of organizations had experienced at least one targeted email attack, while 41% had experienced multiple attempts in the past two years. This means that over 77% of businesses expect to be victims of email phishing in the next 12 months, and only 40% are fully aware of what email phishing is.
Clearswift, on the other hand, found that UK organizations are concerned about former employees maintaining access to corporate networks.
Employees’ lax attitude towards sharing passwords ranked as another cyber concern, with a third of UK businesses citing it as one of the biggest threats. USB sticks were next on the list, with 31% of respondents citing USB devices and storage media in general as a serious threat. Failure of businesses to cut off network access for former employees was next on the list, with more than one in four concerned.
Mike Turner, head of security at Capgemini, believes that organizations are not doing enough to combat online fraud, which is why the rates are disappointing.
