Hackers turn Nintendo Switch into Linux tablet

As we reported in our previous article, the hacking group fail0verflow managed to install a graphical user interface on the Nintendo Switch after hacking the game console to run a Linux-.

Last week, fail0verflow made it possible to run the Debian GNU/Linux operating system on the Nintendo Switch gaming console via a vulnerability discovered during intensive research periods aimed at finding hardware flaws in the device.

According to their findings, the exploit they found could not be patched by Nintendo through a firmware update, as it targeted a flaw in the boot ROM. The vulnerability allowed them to install and run the popular Debian GNU/ Linux on the console.Nintendo Switch

During the weekend, fail0verflow announced on Twitter that it progressed as much as possible in installing a graphical environment on the Nintendo Switch in the form of the widely used KDE Plasma desktop, thus turning the gaming console into a full Linux tablet.

In a video posted on Twitter we can see the KDE Plasma graphical environment running on the Nintendo Switch, allowing users to adjust screen brightness, easily zoom web pages in or out using their fingers, and also move pages and text with the on-screen keyboard.

While all this may sound great for Linux users who want a tablet with a Linux operating system, don't rush to buy a Nintendo Switch as the fail0verflow team has not yet revealed details on how to install a Linux-based operating system on the gaming console.
