Microsoft announced that it has fixed issues with AMD systems for users participating in the Windows Insider program, thus lifting a restriction that prevented computers with such hardware from downloading Windows 10 build 17074.
The Meltdown and Spectre fixes released in early January caused several issues on Windows PCs with AMD chipsets, including boot failures and BSODs. Microsoft has suspended updates for all affected configurations and blocked systems enrolled in the Insider program from receiving new builds.
The company announced today that the restriction is no longer in effect, as all reported bugs affecting AMD machines attempting to download both security updates for the Meltdown and Spectre vulnerabilities and the new builds of Windows 10 Redstone 4 have been fixed.
The new build 17074.1002 is being pushed out via Windows Update as a cumulative update. Only Fast ring users with AMD chipsets can get it, while everyone else can download it on January 11.
Windows 10 Redstone 4 is already in advanced stages of development and should be finalized in March of this year, before being released to the production ring in April.
Windows 10 RS4 will likely be known as version 1803 and will initially be released in RTM form. Just like the previous version (Fall Creators Update), the rollout will be gradual, with hardware and software compatibility telemetry still being collected and patches being pushed out gradually before the final build.
