As of today, January 1, 2018, you can no longer use the popular WhatsApp Messenger app on BlackBerry OS and BlackBerry 10 devices, nor Windows Phone 8.0 or older devices.
In February 2016, WhatsApp explained that it would focus more on the iOS and Android platforms, rather than the older mobile operating systems offered by BlackBerry and Nokia, in order to be able to expand the application's features in the future.
At the end of 2016, it stopped working with Symbian S60, iPhone 3GS and other iPhone devices running Apple, Windows Phone 7 devices, as well as any other device using Android 2.1 and Android 2.2 operating systems.
“Looking ahead to the next seven years, we want to focus our efforts on the mobile platforms that the vast majority of our users use,” WhatsApp said. “While these mobile devices are an important part of our story, they don’t offer the kind of capabilities we need to expand our app’s features in the future.”
We would like to remind you that we would like to inform that those devices running the BlackBerry OS, BlackBerry 10 and Windows Phone 8.0 mobile operating systems that WhatsApp Messenger will stop working as of today, January 1, 2018. In other words, you will not be able to use WhatsApp messaging services on any of these devices anymore.
If you still own a mobile device running BlackBerry OS, BlackBerry 10, or Windows Phone 8.0 and need to use WhatsApp Messenger, it's time to look for a newer, more modern smartphone running iOS or Android. After December 31, 2018, WhatsApp will also drop support for Nokia S40 devices, while Android 2.3.7 and older will no longer be supported after February 1, 2020.
