HMD Global revived the famous Nokia 3310 in 2017, and it seems the company wants to improve the series with new features.
In September, we had the unveiling of the device which impressed us with its 3G support. The new model takes the next step by adding 4G capability combined with features that could transform it into a modern smartphone.
According to sources, the new Nokia 3310 could get a taste of the Android ecosystem thanks to YunOS. Based on the Android Open Source Project, this operating system could bring support for Android apps, although at first glance, this doesn't make sense given the device's existing technical capabilities.
YunOS is a rather controversial product, as Google itself considers it an incompatible version of Android. It provides users with access to an app store called Aliyun which includes apps that are not necessarily legal as they copy the name, look and features of the most popular titles.
While it is not known if HMD is also planning any other hardware upgrades for this new version of the Nokia 3310, just a 4G upgrade certainly won't be enough to make the device a smartphone.
The only thing for sure, of course, is that Nokia fans will happily buy the 3310 makeover, especially if it brings them closer to today's modern mobile platforms.
The Nokia 3310 with 4G support could see the light of day in early 2018, so it will be interesting to see how the legendary model will take its first step into the Android world.
