How to check and delete history in Windows 10

WindowsWhen you use Windows 10, you search Bing, control Cortana with your voice, browse the web using Microsoft Edge. All of this information is collected by Microsoft to make the experience more personalized for users. It's exactly what Google does for its account users.

You can see some information collected by Windows 10 in the form of activity history. And luckily, it's neither tedious nor impossible to check your Windows 10-related activity.

In addition to tracking how you use your PC, Windows 10 Activity History can help you in a number of ways. For example, if you give your computer to your children, you can know if they are following the rules you have set for them about using it. Also, if you ever lose your device, location updates in Activity History can help you.

How to view and delete Windows 10 activity history:

You can delete your Windows 10 activity history anywhere, anytime as long as you're signed in to your Microsoft account. Follow these steps:

On your computer, go to Settings > Privacy. On the General screen, click Manage information stored in the cloud. This will open a browser tab. Alternatively, if you're on another device, you can visit accounts.microsoft.com and sign in using your Microsoft account credentials. Then, click the link called Privacy.

On the Privacy Dashboard webpage, click Activity History.

The Activity History page separates the data collected with different filters, such as:

Voice – Cortana voice commands (and voice commands from apps that use the Windows Speech service)

Search – The searches you have performed using Bing.

Browsing – Microsoft Edge browsing history.

Locations – Your location history if Location is enabled in Windows 10.

Now, you can delete the items you want.

Please note that it is not possible to delete all of Windows 10 activity history at once. You must select a filter and then click “Clear Activity” to remove all items listed in that filter.

You can prevent your data from being collected on the Windows 10 activity history page by turning off the corresponding features on your computer.

For voice history, you can visit Settings > Privacy > Speech. There, turn on the toggle that says Turn off speech and typing services.

To turn off location history, on your computer, open the Action Center and click the “Quick Action Command” button

The privacy dashboard also lets you do other things like view Cortana's notebook and edit your ad settings.
