One of the new features of the new iPhone X is wireless charging. Although we have already seen it on Android devices, it is still a pleasant addition for anyone who is a fan of Apple.
However, wireless charging also has its drawbacks despite the convenience it offers, so iPhone X users should be careful when using it.
One key area that requires special attention is credit cards. As Apple itself has confirmed, using wireless charging can damage credit cards if they are placed between the back of the iPhone and the charging plate. This applies to anyone who owns an iPhone 8 and should also apply to any other smartphone that supports wireless charging.
Now, some of you may be wondering why you would have your credit cards on the back of an iPhone. However, many people use phone cases with card pockets, which is very convenient for anyone who doesn't want to carry a wallet.
Because Apple knows how popular these wallets are among its customers, it states:
“Wireless charging uses magnetic induction to charge your iPhone. Don’t place anything between iPhone and the charger. Magnetic mounts, magnetic cases, or other objects between iPhone and the charger may reduce performance or damage magnetic strips or RFID chips like those found on some credit cards, security badges, passports, and keys. If your case holds any of these sensitive items, remove them before charging or make sure they’re not between the back of iPhone and the charger.”
The worst thing that can happen if you forget to remove your credit card from the case while wirelessly charging your iPhone is that the card itself will become demagnetized, making it not work.
