A Windows desktop version of WhatsApp is already up for grabs for those who want to stay in touch with their contacts without unlocking their phones, but it looks like the company is working on something that's a little more user-friendly for those already on Windows 10.
WhatsApp is currently testing a Windows Store version of its PC client that will be available to all Windows 10 users, but at first glance, it brings almost no changes compared to the existing app.
Even though you might be tempted to think otherwise, the Windows Store version of WhatsApp's desktop app will still work exclusively on PC and the feature set will be exactly the same as what's available to users.
The app is already available in the Windows Store, but only registered testers can get it right now, although the company is expected to release it to everyone in the coming weeks.
The Win32 version of WhatsApp Desktop is more or less a web wrapper, as it emulates the interface and functionality available in a browser at web.whatsapp.com. The Windows Store client will likely do the same thing, serving as a quick way to chat with contacts on a Windows 10 device.
So why launch a Windows Store version, you might ask. While it may seem almost useless at first glance, the Windows Store app allows Windows 10 S users to connect to WhatsApp from their devices. Windows 10 S is a dedicated SKU of Windows 10 that is limited to Windows Store apps, without the permission to install Win32 software.
At this point, there is no official announcement on when we should expect the Windows Store version of WhatsApp Desktop, but since it is expected to be more of a web wrapper, it shouldn't take long before download links are released for everyone.
